What is a Greenhouse Gas (GHG)?

A greenhouse gas is any gas that absorbs the sun’s radiation in the atmosphere. Some GHG’s occur naturally and are emitted to the atmosphere through natural processes. Others GHG’s result from human activities such as the use of fossil fuels, deforestation, and some methods of farming.

 

 

Which GHG’s Are Important to Global Warming & Climate Change? 

There are six main GHG’s that contribute to global warming: Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Nitrous Oxide, Hydrfluorocarbons, Perfluorcarbons, and Sulphur Hexafluoride. The table below outlines the chemical and sources for each of these:
